The Fitzsimmons Scholarship for Women in Leadership

In May 2021, one of AUR’s best-loved and most active professors, Professor Fitzsimmons took a well-deserved step back from classroom teaching after 24 years of inspirational and dedicated service.

Professor Fitzsimmons is universally celebrated for her focus on student success, which never stopped at the classroom door but extended through the wealth of extra-curricular and social activities she instigated to provide opportunities for development and networking.

In Professor Fitzsimmons own words, “My happiest AUR memories are traveling with students on the Business Field Trips and working with the Business Club. Then, of course, there's staying connected with literally hundreds of AUR alums, and sharing news about their promotions, weddings, vacations, babies, and accomplishments on the Alumni FB page.”

Professor Fitzsimmons epitomizes AUR’s core values of teamwork & leadership, she has been a role model and inspiration throughout her time in the classroom. To honor her enormous and enduring contribution to AUR, and to the impact she has had on the students she came into contact with, in the summer of 2021, the university (with Professor Fitzsimmons' enthusiastic support) has launched a campaign to establish The Fitzsimmons Scholarship for Women in Leadership.

In fall 2023, the university welcomed its first two Fitzsimmons Scholarship recipients: Djani and Morgan. We are now in our second year of active fundraising for student entry in fall 2024.

SUPPORTING
THE FITZSIMMONS SCHOLARSHIP FOR WOMEN IN LEADERSHIP

While every dollar counts to reach our goal, and no gift is too small (or too big) we do particularly value annual recurring donations that will allow us to continue awarding this scholarship in the coming years and, most of all, will allow us to help many young women achieve their personal leadership ambitions and purposes.

Alumni Memories #1

Mitch Henderson recalls Professor Fitzsimmons excitedly telling her class about a new company she predicted would fundamentally transform the world, “Professor Fitzsimmons told us about the way this company captured feedback and the ease it brought to online purchases,” he said. “At the time, this vision made many laugh. That company’s name? Amazon.”

“This class changed everything for me, and I can honestly say that this one discussion did more for me than any of the several courses I’ve since taken,” stated Mitch, who credits Professor Fitzsimmons with teaching him everything about business; “She was literally ahead of Stanford in her vision.”

Mitch is now Co-Chief Executive Officer at Clear Seas Research and BNP Media.
